Where the money goes
Renaissance 21 is built to put money into programs, not overhead. This is possible thanks to generous contributions from individual donations and volunteer time. What little overhead we do have — bookkeeping, filings, and grant-seeking — is fully covered by recurring individual donations. That means grant, sponsorship, and public donation dollars fund justice & equity programs.
The figures below come from our IRS Form 990-EZ filings and financials, with staff time allocated across functions.
Five-year financial summary (2021–2025)
| 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 (projected) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | $91,857 | $116,072 | $143,053 | $115,669 | $133,000 |
| Program services | $42,063 | $101,076 | $116,599 | $108,026 | $112,495 |
| Fundraising & events | $9,778 | $8,498 | $3,995 | $14,450 | $8,700 |
| Administration | $4,507 | $6,570 | $3,146 | $3,859 | $9,100 |
| Share of spending going to programs | 75% | 87% | 94% | 86% | 86% |
| Year-end net assets | $76,611 | $66,582 | $85,895 | $69,368 | ~$72,000 |
| Total liabilities | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
Two things we're proud of in these numbers: in 2022 and 2024 we intentionally ran deficits, deploying reserves directly into programs. And beyond the grants we received, we have invested well over $95,000 of non-grant cash (raised from individual donations) into programs since 2021 as community match documented in eight signed grant agreements, and over $200,000 of total match including volunteer and in-kind contributions.
